Christmas day!

Good evening, everyone!
How are you doing, this evening?
I’m doing very good and having a wonderful time! I am little sleepy from lack of sleep last night. However, I am still up and running!

Today, I want to talk about Christmas. How are Japanese people spending Christmas and who do you spend time with?

One of my special students told me that she and he will be spending time with their partners. This was new for me!! Surprising!!! I have only spent my Christmas days with my family. After I got married, of course, he is my family so I will be spending time with his family. I will decorate their parent's house next weekend and get ready for Christmas day.

What kind of fun can you get with your partner only? Isn’t it better to spend time with your family and speak with each other how we all feel at the end of the year drinking hot black tea with lemon and honey? No? I guess not.

On top of this new information, my student who has gone to study abroad told me that she will come back right after Christmas because all her friends have boyfriend and she has no business during Christmas!! Unbelievable!!! Poor thing, really!!

I’ve talked with my other student, she told me her children will be spending time with their friends and partners during Christmas day. This is sad information to receive for me.

In U.S., I’ve always spend time with my family. My sister was little so she came over to our house in U.S. to spend time during the Christmas season and went back to Okinawa again in January. We only had little time to enjoy together so we’ve been to mainland U.S. and see the Christmas ornaments and trees which is wonderfully decorated in the shopping center and also at the church.

I understand if one of the family members is in mainland Japan studying but if they are all here and yet, they would not meet at the special day in the end of year makes me feel melancholy.

Perhaps they will meet on the New Year day? I have no idea. I will be spending once again with my family on New Year’s Day! I guess I am more of a family oriented type of person in Japan. Nonetheless, I say, for this year, you maybe should think twice before spending time with your partner. I know how strange it sounds like but do something corny this year and have a wonderful Christmas with your family! What do you think? Good idea? Not a good idea?

Well, I’ve tried.

I would like you to feel proud of yourself during this time of the year and thank yourself for working very hard and doing your best.

I want all my students to feel happy this month and at the same time, feel heartfelt happiness on Christmas day.

I am sure you have at least one thing you can be proud of.

Mahalo and see you again on Thursday!
